NEW YORK -- John de Braganca, a former vice president and treasurer of the Rhinelander Real Estate Company and later an investment banker, died on Tuesday in Palm Beach, Fla. He was 79 and lived in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Mr. de Braganca, a great-grandson of King Miguel of Portugal, ruler from 1828 to 1834, was born in Sussex, England, and graduated from Harvard. He served as a commander in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

He retired as vice president of the Manhattan investment banking firm of Winslow, Cohu & Stetson.

He is survived by his wife, the former Katharine Bahnson; a son, Miguel, of Boston; a brother, Miguel, of Palm Beach, and three grandchildren.
