Dr. John F. Michaelree, a retired family physician in St. Louis County, died Saturday (Oct. 7, 1995) of cancer at the Mary Queen and Mother Center home in Shrewsbury. He was 77 and lived in Manchester.

Dr. Michaelree practiced family medicine for more than 20 years in Maplewood. Later, he moved the practice to Crestwood. He retired about 12 years ago.

A native of Richmond, Ind., Dr. Michaelree moved to St. Louis in the late 1920s and was a graduate of McKinley High School. He graduated from St. Louis University Medical School before serving as a physician in the Army Medical Corps in World War II.

Dr. Michaelree was active in the American Academy of Family Physicians for more than 40 years and was a member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society. He was active in anti-abortion groups.

He was married for nearly 50 years to the former Frances Taylor Woods. Her grandfather, Zachary Taylor Guibor, was the first mayor of Maplewood. She died in 1991. (* SEE NOTE BELOW)

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 567 St. Joseph Lane in Manchester. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Schrader Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Road in Ballwin.
