A gentle giant among men passed on May 3, 2015 at the age of eighty-seven.

He was born in Salt Lake City on September 9, 1927.

Our father was preceded in death by our mother and his wife, Betty Jeanne Nelson; his parents, Norman P. and Leona Nelson; his brother, Wayne Nelson; and sister, Leona (Merrick) Carlson. He is survived by his five children: son, Donald Chad (Wendy) Nelson; daughter, Corie (David) Fuller; daughter, Nonie (Dan) Tappana; son, Cortney Pres (Marceen) Nelson; and son, Matheson Page (Lezlie) Nelson; and sister-in-law, Hendrika (Wayne) Nelson. His remaining family also includes fifteeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Don lived his entire life in Salt Lake City. He attended West High School. He served in both the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army. Then, he married the love of his life, Betty, on July 17, 1948.

The majority of his work career was as a salesman with A.W. Marshall Company from which he retired in 1990. He is a member of the LDS Church.

Don's first priority was his immediate family. He enjoyed family campouts and get-togethers, caring for his yard, boating, helping neighbors, and later, his morning "neighborhood ladies" coffee club.

A great friend to anyone who entered his always-open door at home. However, he was above all a great father, example, teacher, and a support to each of his children and their families...we love him with all our hearts and owe him everything!

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary (3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East)), where family and friends may call prior for a visitation from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
Interment will take place in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
