Bob was born on April 5, 1926 in Seven Hickory Township, Coles County, IL, one of ten children born to the late Stant E. and Mary Fern (Frizzelle) Jones. He married Mary Grace Ferguson on October 17, 1947 at her parents Charleston home and for 67 years they have shared a loving marriage with faith, friendship and family as its foundation. He is survived by his wonderful and loving family, his wife Gracie of Charleston; their six children, Susan Mikeworth and husband Jim of Villa Grove, IL, Becky Watkins and husband Lee of Charleston, Robin Wipf and husband Pete of Newton, IL, Robert Stanton Jones, Jr. and wife Alice of Farmer City, IL, Melinda Jones of Charleston, Steven Jones and his partner Rob Hammond of Lerna, IL; 9 grandchildren, Megan (Jason) Sarashinsky, Ben (Jess) Mikeworth, Matthew Murphy, Zachary Murphy, Krista (Steven) Fehrenbacher, Kimberly Bough, Ryan Jones, Rachel (Joel) Mitchell, Rush Jones; 5 great-grandchildren with another due any day; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Bob was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, 7 sisters and a granddaughter, Ashley Jones.

Following high school Bob enlisted in the United States Army, faithfully serving his country with courage and honor during World War II. He was discharged August of 1946 with numerous medals including a Purple Heart. Bob always worked hard, often working two or more jobs in order to provide for his family. He farmed while working at Eastern Illinois University as a Building Service Worker and while working for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for nearly 40 years. Bob was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Charleston where he served as a deacon. He was a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and participated for many years as a member of the Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Charleston Elks Club B.P.O.E. #623, the Rural Letter Carriers Association, and was a former member of the Coles County Farm Bureau.

Bob lived his life for others with a servant’s heart and a humble spirit. He could be depended on to come to the aid of anyone in need and he could fix anything - he always had the right tool for the job and his tool shed was well stocked. Bob was blessed with patience and kindness and the ability to share his knowledge with others. He and Gracie also shared their home and family as foster parents or with others who might need a helping hand. Bob’s kitchen skills were appreciated by all when he served up his delicious biscuits and gravy or made a batch of his Christmas fudge.

Bob was a soft spoken gentleman who earned the respect of everyone. His family and many others were blessed by his loving devotion and commitment to enhance the lives of those he loved. They have been gifted with many fond memories of special times shared.
