Gene Donald Marquardt was born August 28, 1928 to Ferdinand and Osine (Skabrud) Marquardt in Winnebago, Minnesota. He attended school in Winnebago and later worked at the funeral home in Winnebago. On February 14, 1948 he was united in marriage to Marion Irene Quist at Blue Earth, Minnesota. On February 8, 1952 he entered the the United States Army serving until January 22, 1954 when he was honorably discharged. Gene went to school to become a electrician and worked and lived in Blue Earth until 1959 when they moved to Fairmont. Gene was employed as an electrician for DeWar Electric for many years. Gene was self employed as an electrician in Iowa. He then was employed at United Foods in Fairmont as an electrician. On February 21, 1987, he was united in marriage to Doris Williamson at the United Methodist Church in Trimont, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived on Clam Lake in rural Welcome. Gene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Trimont. He also enjoyed collecting antiques, working with wood and going camping.
Gene died on Thursday evening, June 8, 2006 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota at he age of seventy-eight year

His wife, Doris Marquardt of rural Welcome, Minnesota; his children, Sue Ann Bulock of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Paula Jane Williamson and her husband, Bruce, of Dent, Minnesota and Robert David Marquardt of Seattle, Washington; step-children, Jeannette Metcalf and her husband, David, of Mountain View, Missouri, Kay Benck and her husband, Randy, of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota, Tami Williamson of Rochester, Minnesota and Tod Williamson and his wife, Twyla, of rural Welcome, Minnesota; grandson, Andrew Bulock of Phoenix, Arizona; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, LaVonne Fields of Winnebago, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Warren Swearingen of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bahr and her husband, Walt, of Fairmont, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marion, brothers, Ray, Irving, Bud, Eugene and Sylvanus; sisters, Shirley Leach, Ruby Edens, Phoebe Anderson, Percy Swearingen, Alice Leach, Delores Christian and other relatives.
