Born March 18, 1920 in Aspers, he was the son of the late George Swope and Florence (Weigle) Swope Shultz. He was the husband of the late Kathryn (Rager) Swope, who died in 2003.
Mr. Swope was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He drove a truck for Royal Transportation in Baltimore, Md. and worked for various construction firms including Gettysburg Construction Company. Before his retirement, he was a maintenance man at the Gettysburg Motor Lodge and the Howard Johnson in Gettysburg. He enjoyed playing the piano at various spots in Gettysburg including the Holiday Inn and Green Acres, and had "Sing Along with Charlie" at the Command Room of the Howard Johnson.
Mr. Swope is survived by two sons, Donald C. Swope of Littlestown and Charles W. Swope Jr. of Mount Airy, Md.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Swope and one half-brother, Eugene Shultz.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Green Acres Nursing Home, 595 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Monahan Funeral Home.
