He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Geary of Elkhart; three grandchildren, A. Thomas Lowe, Brandi (Hector) Lopez, and Brooke Westphal, all of Elkhart and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by five sisters, Dorothy, Florence, Nevada, Patricia and Carla and three brothers, Sam, Arthur, and Billie. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, great grandson, Jonas Lopez and sister, Helen.
He was a lifetime member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion. He was a former District Commander of the American Legion post 777, San Bernardino, CA and a member of the Past Commander’s Club. Chris retired as a Master Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force after more than 20 years of service. He served during Vietnam and was stationed in Alaska, Korea, Germany, Malta, and South Africa. His awards included the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. His first Oak Leaf Cluster Commendation Medal was during the period of May 15, 1968 to May 6, 1969. Sergeant Geary’s outstanding professional skill, knowledge and leadership aided immeasurably in the establishment of a new communications site. His dedication, ingenuity and supervisory ability were instrumental in the efficient opening of the first communications link between the North African and European Continents. The distinctive accomplishment of Sergeant Geary reflects credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
A private family service will be held. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola will be handling the service.
