Hans J. "Jack" Blum, 84, of Acampo, CA passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005 at home following an extended illness.

He was born JAKOB G BLUEM on March 26th, 1920 in Euclid, "Cleveland" Ohio. He was also called Hans and later went by the name Jack. He was the son of Jakob (1888–1968) and Philomena Gisler Bluem of Altdorf, Switzerland and Euclid Ohio, Jack graduated from Shore High in 1938.

He began his Engineering studies at General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan in 1939. With the interruption of WWII, he enlisted in Naval Midshipman's School at the University of Notre Dame. From April 4, 1943 to June 17, 1946 he served in the U.S. Navy as a Line Officer Specialist in ship repair and as a Gyro Compass Officer.

Ensign Blum met his future bride Anne Blaisdell of Port Orchard, Washington performing at a music concert where he was directing the men's chorus and Anne was the guest soloist. They were married in June 30, 1945 in Euclid, Ohio. Jack graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint Michigan with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked in the Euclid area for three years before moving his wife and young family to Richmond, CA where he was plant manager for Rheem Manufacturing. Then for a year worked for Curtiss Wright Mfg. in Buffalo, NY. Then returning to San Jose, CA where he established his own business Sierra Tool & Mfg. & Pressed Metals Inc. in Santa Clara. He designed and built the original tooling and first production of the Peterbilt "Texas Bumper". Jack moved these companies to Wallace, CA in 1973.

Jack and Anne were passionate music lovers and were faithful choir member of the 1st United Methodist Churches in Cambrian Park, San Jose and later when they reestablished in Lodi. They toured Europe with the Santa Clara Chorale in the late 60's. In 1978, Jack was selected along with a team of consultant specialists by the U.S. Government to assist the fledgling South Korean Metal Working Industry.

Jack and Ann enjoyed 55 years of marriage until her passing in 2001.

He is survived by son John Blum of Acampo; daughter Melanie Molle of San Jose, and two grandsons Nick and Daniel Molle; and daughter Carole Blum of Glendale, California and granddaughter Pamela Glazier.

He was preceded in death by his sister Antoinette Lillian "Toni" and brother Dr. Albert William Bluem.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday April 3rd, at 12:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Alan Kimber officiating. There will be no visitation & committal will be private. Memorials can be made to: First United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, 200 West Oak Street, Lodi, CA 95240.
