Funeral services for Miss Catharine McKay were held May 1 from the United Methodist Church. Rev. B. B. Curtis officiating. Pallbearers were George McKay, John McKay, Donald L. Olson, A. C. 'Fred' Jensen, Aldrich Ostlund, and Ernest T. Johnson. Interment was in Kinkead cemetery.
Catharine McKay was born February 8, 1877 at the old McKay home on McKay Avenue where she lived until moving to Maple Street in 1955. Her entire life was lived in Alexandria. She graduated from the Alexandria High School, taught school a number of years in rural schools of Douglas county and in several grade schools of Minnesota. She served as Assistant Superintendent of the Douglas county schools for seventeen years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of this city since she was a young girl (1893), holding office in all departments of the church and Sunday School. She was also an active member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union for many years. Catharine is the last of her family. All preceded her in death, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. McKay, seven brothers: William, Rollie, Henry, Andrew, Sherman, Stanley and Roy, three sisters, Maud, Elizabeth and Florence. At the time of her death she was 93 years, 2 months and 19 days old.
