Ira married Adaline E. Sloan on 21 Dec 1857 in Genesee Twp, Genesee Co, MI. He stated he was 21, but he was actually 18 at the time.

Killed in action at James Island, Charleston, South Carolina, June 16, 1862.
Ira's body was not recovered by the Union forces. He was buried by CSA with 45 others in a mass grave at Fort Lamar, James Island Civil War Battlefield, James Island, Charleston County, South Carolina.
