Merle Louis Garbers was born on July 4, 1924 to Arnold and Lillie (Schultz) Garbers in Martin County, Minnesota. He was baptized on December 16, 1938. Merle attended Distict #63 country school in Fox Lake Township. He then farmed on the family farm in Fraser Township, rural Welcome until his retirement. Since March 24, 2006 he has been a resident of the Trimont Health Care Center. Merle was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Welcome. He greatly enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards and going to dances. He also enjoyed riding horses and going to horse shows.

Merle died on Wednesday morning, May 10, 2006 at the Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont, Minnesota at the age of eighty-one years.

Survivors include his two sisters, Evelyn Helvig and her husband, Bruce, of Fairmont, Minnesota and Ardis McKean of rural Ceylon, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Violet Garbers of Welcome, Minnesota; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Merten Garbers; brother-in-law, Ralph McKean and other relatives.
