Leota Jean Schulz was born August 7, 1931 to Frank Schulz and Ruth (Schuder) Schultz in Garden City, Minnesota. She attended and later graduated from Mankato High School. Leota then was employed at the Mankato Box Factory and later was a metor maid for the city of Mankato. On August 28, 1973, Leota was united in marriage to Harold Karl at Clear Lake, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in Mankato and then to Garden City, Mapleton, Rapidan area until moving to Welcome. They owned and operated Welcome Service for many years. Leota has been employed at the Welcome Post Office for the past ten years. She greatly enjoyed doing cross word puzzles and latch hook.

Leota died on Saturday afternoon, January 7, 2006 at the Fairmont Medical Center-Mayo Health System in Fairmont, Minnesota at the age of seventy-four years.


Leota is survived by her husband, Harold Karl of Welcome, Minnesota; children, Carolyn Carman and her husband, Elvin of Columbia Falls, Montana, Earl Karl and his wife, Christine, of Las Vegas, Nevada; two granddaughters, Jessica and Kelly Carman; nieces, Lori Furan-Schulz and Lisa Furan both of Mankato, Minnesota, Susan Rogotzke of Chillicothe, Missouri; nephew, Todd Rossel of Crestview, Florida and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Leota was preceded in death by her two sisters, Marie Furan and Lila Rossel and other relatives.
