Wayne F. "Doc" Kaiser, 92, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 10:28 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Fort Madison Community Hospital. He was born on October 8, 1922 in Nauvoo, IL to Frank & Edith Kriese Kaiser. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Baxter on September 27, 1946 in Evanston, IL. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II in the 118th F.A. Medical Detachment in the 30th Infantry "Old Hickory" Division. His tour of duty included England, France, Belgium, Holland & Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Medal and the Five Star Divisional Medal. His division landed on Omaha Beach the week of "D" Day in Normandy. He graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL in 1949 and practiced optometry for 36 years before retiring on October 10, 1987. His son Greg joined the practice for 2 years from 1977 to 1979, before moving to California. Doc was active in many local activities including: Ss. Mary & Joseph Church, American Legion, Elks Club, Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Eagles Club, Fort Madison Country Club, VFW, Red Cross, Rotary Club, United Way and several optometric associations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cross words, gardening and yard work, especially at his cottage in Montrose. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 1-sister: Adeline Kraus & 1-brother: Richard Kaiser.
