Paula Jeanne Abel, 46, died at 3 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, in her residence.
She was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. She was an alumna of St. Louis Catholic High School and was a cum laude graduate of McNeese State University with a bachelor's and a master's degree in chemistry. She was a chemistry instructor and co-assistant chemistry department head at McNeese. She also was an advisor to chemistry majors. She was an alternate counselor of the American Chemical Society. She was a member of the McNeese Organization for Science and Technology and the Louisiana Bayou Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and an at-large member of the school board of the Immaculate Cathedral School.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Abel; two sons, Marcus Paul Abel and Patrick Douglas Abel; one daughter, Blair Elizabeth Abel; and her mother, Jeanne Burke, all of Lake Charles.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, from Cathedral of the
Immaculate Conception. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will
be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral
Home. Visitation is 2-10 p.m. today, with a wake service at 7 p.m., and
from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
