Stella Mary Otte, age 90 of Gordon, Nebraska, died April 8, 2015, at Gordon Memorial Hospital. She was born August 23, 1924, to Frederick and Catherine Crowe, in Valentine, Nebraska. Stella grew up near Valentine, NE and surrounding area. She attended high school at St. Mary's Academy in O'Neill, NE. She received her BSRN in Fort Smith, AR and later attained her MSRN in Minot, ND. She taught grammar school at Holy Rosary Mission, SD. She later returned to Fort Smith, AR to teach Nursing, and college level English. She worked as a nurse for many years at the Gordon Memorial Hospital and also as a social worker field nurse for Shannon County Schools. In later years she enjoyed working at the Sheridan Livestock Auction Café. Stella met Frederick Eugene Otte at Holy Rosary Mission, SD. They were married in Woodlake, NE on May 25th, 1959. Gene and Stella then made their home northwest of Gordon, NE where they raised their 3 children. Stella was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rushville, NE. For many years she joyfully brought communion to people who were unable to attend mass. Stella was indeed a talented woman. She could sew an elaborate wedding dress, build a house complete with plumbing and electricity and fix a tractor. Though, one of her favorite passions was her woodworking. Stella was a fabulous cook and baker, and nothing made her happier than cooking for her family. Stella was so proud of her children and even more so of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the light of her life and brought her great joy. Service will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rushville, NE. Burial will be at the Gordon Cemetery.
