Evelyn Heintz Emberton, 82, and longtime resident of Elkhart and Liberal areas, died March 21, 1999 at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo.
Evelyn was born on a homestead 5 miles West of Elkhart, Kansas on March 28, 1916 to J. E. and Margaret Kennedy Heintz. Evelyn worked retiring from teaching.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, P.E.O., Past Chamber of Commerce and Pride Committee Presidents, High Plains Health Foundation, elected as Morton County Woman of the Year in 1989, member of the board of directors of the First State Bank, Aurora Club and Book Review Club of Liberal. Evelyn was instrumental in the remonumentation of the corners of Kansas, Colorado and Oklahoma. On Sept. 8, 1990 the restored cornerstone was dedicated became a National Monument.
She married Jack Emberton March 26, 1937. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1983.
Survivors are daughters Monzelle McFaddin of San Ramon, Calif.; VonCeil Bleess of Tuscon, Ariz. and Michele Dorsey of Amarillo, Tex.; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Services will be March 24 at 2 p.m. at First Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas with Rev. Ken Van presiding. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on March 23 at Harrell Funeral Home in Elkhart. Interment will be in Elkhart Cemetery under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be given to Morton County Care Center.
