Mr. Abbott was born in Pletcher, Alabama to Mr. John Thomas Abbott Sr. and Mrs. Ulnah Judy Abbott. Preceding him in death was one brother, Walter Aubrey Abbott of Centreville and one sister, Alma Abbott Carter of Selma, one halfbrother, Kent Abbott and a halfsister, Ruth Abbott. Also preceding him in death was a son, Robert Earl Abbott, who died unexpectedly in 1997. Mr. Abbott was a veteran of World War II with the 101st Airborne Squadron and served as a paratrooper. He received an honorable discharge. Survivors include a son, Billy Roger Abbott of Prattville, two daughters, Shirley Abbott Worrell of Selma and Donna Abbott Goray of Jacksonville,his former wife, Ms. Vera Popwell Abbott of Selma, four grandsons, Kevin Worrell of Tuscaloosa, Lance Abbott of Charlotte, MI., Dustin Walker & Matthew Walker of Jemison, and six granddaughters, Tracy Putteet & Stephanie Turner of Prattville, Lauren Goodwin of Millbrook, Suzanne Popwell of Clanton, and Shaina Edwards & Amber Goray of Jacksonville. He is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Corey and Caleb Helms, Ashton Putteet, Abigail Turner, Katelyn & Mattison Walker, and Cheyanne Popwell, as well as a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Abbott was a talented musician and played the dobro guitar. He was 80 years old.
