Mattie Ethel Headley, 85, daughter of Vastine and Anvaline (Worsham) Headley, was born near Huggins, Mo. October 4, 1892 and died March 16, 1978.
On Dec. 30, 1908 at Hartville, Mo. she was united in marriage to Arthur Blaine Tate and to this union 11 children were born. Mr. Tate died in 1956 and she was also preceded in death by two sons, two daughters and two brothers. She was a lifelong resident of the Graff area with the exception of the past few years, while she made her home with a daughter in Cabool.
Mrs. Tate was a charter member of the Union Chapel Church near Graff, later moving her membership to the Hopewell Freewill Baptist Church where it remained. Survivors are three sons, Oral of Houston, Verl of Kansas City and Virgil of Mtn. Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Ola Ziepseerder, Mtn. Grove, Virgie Davis, Kelseville, Calif., Pauline Pierce, Blue Springs, Mo. and Sylvia Bridges of Cabool; six brothers: Everett Headley, Iola, Kan.; Walter Headley, Humboldt, Kan., Manson Headley and Earnest Headley of Manes, Mo.; Sammy Headley of Lebanon, and Tom Headley of Kansas City; three sisters, Birchie Rowe, Dora Moseley of Manes and Vivian Matthews,Lebanon; 30 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 12 great, great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday in the Hopewell Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery.
