Myrtie Lorraine Lawless Cruce Hahne, 81, passed away Tuesday afternoon in the Hemphill Care Center in Hemphill, Texas. Myrtie was born in Kilgore, Texas to Arthur Howell Lawless and Christine Howell Lawless. The family moved to Gladewater, Texas where she grew up, and graduated from Gladewater High School in 1951. There she met and fell in love with the love of her life, her high school printing teacher, James Twyman Cruce, and they were married on 2/2/1952 in Texarkana, Texas. The couple then moved to Arlington, Texas, where they adopted 2 children. While living in Arlington, she worked at Arlington State Bank. They moved later to Midland, Texas in 1965. While rearing her two children, she attended the University of Texas of the Permian Basin at Odessa and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Her teaching career began in the Midland I.S.D. in 1976. The family moved to Hemphill, Texas in 1980 living near Toledo Bend Reservoir, where she continued her teaching career in the Hemphill I.S.D. She also was a coach for the girls basketball team. Lorraine retired from teaching in 1999.
Myrtie married Donald G. Hahne on November 19, 1994. She was an avid fisherman, gardener, and she enjoyed mowing her property on her riding lawnmower. She also enjoyed playing the slot machines in Bossier City, La. occasionally. She was a loving wife, mother,sister and aunt.
Myrtie is survived by her husband of 21 years Donald Hahne of Hemphill, daughter Susan Richter and husband Danny of Kilgore, Texas, her son David Cruce and wife Renate of Longview, and her brother Steve Lawless and his wife Diana of League City, Texas,and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her first husband, James Twyman Cruce, her sisters: Patsy Ruth Lawless and Margie Neal Lawless Moss, and her grandson James Betterton.
Memorial services will be at 11:00AM, Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Bethany Baptist Church in Milam, Texas.
