Funeral services for Joe G. Abrusley, Jr., 80, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oakdale, Louisiana with Father Jose Vattakunnel officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale, LA.

Joe Jr., age 80, entered eternal rest on Monday, March 30, 2015 at his residence with his family by his side. To his family and friends, he will always be remembered as a devoted family man, loyal friend, and dedicated community member.

Joe Jr. was a loving husband, daddy, papa, great grandpa, and uncle. He was born on August 22, 1934 in Oakdale to the union of Joe, Sr. and Sadie Abrusley. If you would ask Joe, he would have told you that his greatest pride was his family. He was intensely proud of his children and grandchildren, and always had a story to tell regarding at least one of them. During the later part of his life, Harper Lee Guillory, the apple of his eye, would entertain him with stories of her own and continue to bring him laughter.

Prior to losing his eyesight, he enjoyed a good cup of coffee with the coffee crew at Elsie’s, talking football and politics. He and his wife traveled extensively – especially to his favorite destination of Las Vegas, Nevada. Although he loved to travel, he would be the first to tell you there was no place like Oakdale, Louisiana. He truly loved his hometown.

Throughout his life in Oakdale, he was a humble businessman and active community member. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. After selling insurance for American Family Life, Joe opened Abrusley Insurance Agency. He proudly owned and operated this business for thirty five years. He was also an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus, Oakdale Lions Club, Oakdale Chamber of Commerce, Oakdale Moose Lodge, Veteran of Foreign Wars and Allen Parish Democratic Committee.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Tommy Abrusley; his parents; Joe Sr. and Sadie Abrusley; five brothers, Leon, Bill, Jim, Johnny, and Edward; sisters-in-law, Asine Abrusley and Peggy McMahon; and a cherished nephew John Abrusley, Jr.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend of fifty seven years, Jean Meredith Abrusley; two daughters, Deborah Abrusley Vidrine and Judge Judi Abrusley; his daughter in law, Elycia Abrusley Gravel; eight grandchildren, Meredith Abrusley Guillory and her husband Michael; Erin Abrusley Ingo and her husband, Corey Ingo, Jim Vidrine, Brooke Abrusley, Michael Joe Vidrine, Kristen Abrusley, David Vidrine and Ashley Abrusley; four great grandchildren, Harper Lee Guillory, Kerklyn McGee, Kamryn and Kyndal Vidrine; loving niece, Lavanda Abrusley; and special family friend Darcy Hennigan; with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers honored to serve include Michael Joe Vidrine, David Vidrine, Darcy Hennigan, Greg Gravel, Michael Guillory, and Donald Guillory.

A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. at Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale. Visitation will follow the Rosary and continue until time of departure for the church.
