Born October 26, 1921, in Cochranville, she was the daughter of the late Percy W. and Martha (Evans) Colyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Harlan Underwood, on October 5, 2008, and her brothers, Percy W. Colyer Jr. and Horace Burns.
Ruth is survived by her son, William Harlan Underwood III, of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, Matthew Underwood and Carin Knight; and daughter-in-law, Jane Underwood.
She was employed as assistant clerk of the Board of Elections in Chester County. She served as committee woman of the Republican Party in London Grove Township, Chester County, and was always involved in politics.
She was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church and served as an elder at Avondale Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, with current membership at Lewistown Chapter No. 283.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, PA 17044, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Private interment will be in Upper Octorara Presbyterian Cemetery in Parkesburg.
Her family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
