MEISTER, Greta Grandy - 93, Wolfville, formerly of New Ross, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006, in Wolfville Nursing Home. Born July 29, 1912, in Port Hawkesbury, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Malcolm and Mary Ann (Grandy) MacLennan, and the adopted daughter of the late Rev. Peter and Mary (MacLennan) Walker. Greta was the eldest and last surviving member of her immediate family. A dedicated teacher of primary, music and French, she taught 33 years in schools in Annapolis, Cumberland, Hants and Lunenburg counties, including 26 years in New Ross schools. She was a graduate of Nova Scotia Teacher's College and Dalhousie University where she earned specialist diplomas through the Primary and Music block summer sessions. She also completed a Grade 12 Music Certificate (piano). Greta was organist of New Ross Baptist Church for 42 years, a Dominion Life Member of the Women's Missionary Society and long-time member of the Marjorie DeLong Ladies Auxiliary and the Charing Cross Garden Club. She enjoyed many years of traveling and reading. Greta is survived by daughter, Sharon (Dr. Steven Kashuba), Edmonton, Alta., and son, Wade (Sandra), New Ross; grandchildren, Bryce (Pam) Meister, Winnipeg, Man.; Jason Meister, Jasper, Alta., and Nicole Kashuba, Edmonton, Alta.; great-granddaughter, Julia Meister, Winnipeg, Man. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Meister, in 1993; sister, Kathleen Phillips; brothers, Mortimore MacLennan in infancy and William Walker; half-sisters, Maude MacLennan in infancy and May Craig; half-brothers, Cecil, Joel and Douglas MacLennan. There will be no visitation by the family's request. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, in New Ross Baptist Church, Pastor David Hine officiating, with interment in New Ross Baptist Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in celebration of Greta's many contributions to the educational, spiritual and community fabric of New Ross may be directed to the Library Fund of the New Ross Consolidated School, New Ross Baptist Church or New Ross Volunteer Fire Department.
