Catherine Louise Lyon was born on April 26, 1923, in the Mount Washington neighborhood of the South Hills of Pittsburgh, the daughter of Robert James and Katherine Nora McQuillan Lyon. Her ancestry was 50% English from her paternal side and 25% Irish/25% German from her maternal side.

Kitty grew up in Mt. Washington at 107 Kathleen Street. She attended St. Justin Grade School and graduated from St. Justin High School in Mt. Washington in the Class of 1942.

Catherine Louise Lyon married Fred Stephen Marvin on July 15, 1942, at St. Justin Catholic Church in Mount Washington.

Before her children were born, Kitty worked briefly at Kaufmann's Department Store in Downtown Pittsburgh in the purse department. In the early years of their marriage, Fred and Kitty lived in an apartment on Arkansas Avenue in the Dormont suburb in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.

Kitty was the mother of two sons:
Gary Lawrence, b. December 7, 1944, Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Douglas Brian, b. April 19, 1947, Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Then she became a full-time mother and homemaker

The Marvins lived at 633 Rossmore Avenue in the Brookline neighborhood in the South Hills of Pittsburgh from about 1946 - December, 1964. They were members of the Church of the Resurrection in Brookline. In December 1994, they moved to a split-level house at 316 Larch Lane in the Baldwin Township suburb. It had been Kitty's lifelong dream to have a house "without all those steps." They were members of the nearby St. Winifred Catholic Church in the Mt. Lebanon suburb of the South Hills.

Kitty enjoyed cooking and baking. Her specialties were pot roast, stuffed peppers, and stuffed pork chops. Her favorite flowers were yellow roses.

Catherine Louise Lyon Marvin passed away on May 25, 1977, at Mercy Hospital in Downtown Pittsburgh at age 54.

Visitation, Vigil Service, and Rosary were at the Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home in Brookline. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Winifred's Catholic Church in Mt. Lebanon, 550 Sleepy Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15228, on May 28, at 9: 30 a.m. Fr. Bernard Hrico, Pastor of St. Winifred's, was the celebrant; Richard P. Gibala, the organist.
