Ridgeley, WV--Jerry Thomas Abe, 75, of Ridgeley, WV, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, March 13, 2015.
Born April 14, 1939, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late George C. and Elizabeth “Jennie” (Wright) Abe of Ridgeley, WV. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Beulah Abe; and one daughter, Beverly L. Abe.
Jerry was a graduate of Ridgeley High School, Class of 1957.
He retired from Westvaco after 43 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #271. Jerry, who was very friendly and outgoing, “never met a stranger.”
He was an avid hunter and loved farming his land. He is survived by his wife, Iva Ellen (Howdyshell) Abe; two daughters, Kelly Defibaugh and husband Mike, Ridgeley, WV, and Ruby Adams and close friend Bill Partlow, Ridgeley, WV; two grandchildren, Bill Adams and close friend Samantha Widmar, Ridgeley, WV, and Savannah Ellsworth, Ridgeley, WV; one great-grandchild, Raelynn Ann Adams; one sister, Shirley James and husband Mike, Reistertown, MD; many nieces and nephews; special friend and helper, Doug Kuhkendall; and his faithful companion, Bud, who never left his side.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, March 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, March 16 at 1 p.m. with Reverend Benny Brakeall officiating.
Interment will follow at Fort Ashby Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.scarpellifh.com.
