Stanley Roy was a son of Isaac William and Florence Kate Gregory, nee Relf.

He was born on 21st April 1918.

He married Doris May Gregory, of Northfleet and had a son, Roger, 1935?.

During World War II he served as an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy, his service number was C/JX 174269.

Stanley died age twenty-three when HMS Marigold was sunk by aircraft off the coast of Algiers on Wednesday 9th of Dec. 1942.

"He was devoted to his wife Doris and the family story goes that he asked his mate, if anything happened to him, to look after her. True to his word Stan's mate, who survived the war, married Doris, looked after her and was a devoted husband until he died." - Frank Webster (Stanley's nephew).

HMS Marigold (K87) was torpedoed and sunk by Italian aircraft off Algiers, Algeria in position 36º50'N, 03º00'E, while under the command of Lt. James Alexander Smith Halcrow, RD, RNR.

She was a corvette of the "Flower" class and was escorting convoy KMS.3Y, which was attacked in the late evening by 3 S.79 VTBs of the 105º Gruppo AS (105th Torpedo group) led by Capt. Urbano Mancini. She was hit by a torpedo about 2200 hrs and quickly sank with the loss of forty-eight of her crew.
