As a second geneneration race car driver Tony started driving in 1986. He ran IMCA Modifieds and late models on Midwest dirt and asphalt tracks. With several wins on those tracks he joined the ASA circuit in 1992.
In 1996 he began racing in Nascar's Craftsman truck series racing. He made a parial schedule run in the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division in 1999.
On Oct 13, 2000 he was driving the #26 Mittler Brothers Ford in the Craftsman Truck Series at Texas Motor Speedway, where he crashed on lap 36 of the O'Reilly 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. He suffered an neck injury that stopped blood flow to his brain and he died the next day Oct 14, 2000.
