Shawnee resident Mary Alice (Yarbrough) Shook, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2015, surrounded by her family. Mary was born November 17 in Shawnee to William Edgar and Florence Estelle (Miles) Yarbrough. She graduated from Bethel High School and Neffs Business College. She played the piano at Bethel United Methodist during her school years. After graduation from Neffs Business College, she went to work for Schlumberger Well Corporation as the first office manager hired in the Shawnee office and was employed there for ten years before leaving to begin her family. Once her children were in college, Mary was employed as the Circulation Assistant in the library at Oklahoma Baptist University for 10 years.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the J.C. Janes, Junior Mother's Club and the Wesleyan Guild. Mary met her husband and love of her life, Allan, when they were children at Bethel church. They were married March 8, 1946, after Allan's return from his service in World War II and were blessed with two children. Mary and Allan celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in March 2015.

They traveled extensively together throughout the continental United States, Canada and Hawaii. Mary's favorite things were her church, flowers and gardening, shopping and fashion (she was never without her lipstick), traveling, sewing and decorating her home. Her fabulous Southern cooking was enjoyed by many - but the joy of her life was her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her first cousins William Ed Yarbrough, George Lee Yarbrough, Edith Miles Crawford and Raymond Knight.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gaynell Anderson, Dr. Merle Davis, Angelic Family Hospice and the nurses and staff at St. Anthony's Hospital of Shawnee for their exceptional dedication and loving care.

The family will host a visitation and luncheon in Fellowship Hall at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 301 North Beard, Shawnee, Oklahoma, on March Friday, March 20, 2015, from Noon to 2:00 p.m.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 301 N Beard Ave, Shawnee, OK 74801 in memory of Mary A. Shook.
