He married Laura Belle Pike. They had nine children. He was a farmer and rancher and Constable of Precinct 2 in Waller County for a long period of time. He owned twenty thousand acres in Waller County at one time. He was born and raised in the Gladish Community. William acquired the nick name of "Smart" Maxwell because of his shrewd cattle dealings. He was the son Francis and Florence Maxwell. His brother was James Holliman Maxwell. He died after chasing a cow out of the garden. He walked back in the house complaining of a server pain in his chest. His wife put him in the bed to rest. He told his wife to tell the kids that he loved them. He must of knew that the end was near. He closed his eyes and died. William lived to be 62 years and 11 months and 25 days old.
