Audrey Alma Andersen
MARYLAND -- Audrey Alma Andersen, nee Williams, died on April 1, 2012.
She was born in Amity, Aroostook County on Oct. 15, 1914. One of 14 children of Roy and Hannah (Greenleaf) Williams, the family moved south to Freeport around 1919.
Upon graduation from Freeport High School, she went to work as a secretary for L.L. Bean in his executive offices in the original L.L. Bean retail store, factory, and offices on Main Street in downtown Freeport, just a short walk from the family home on West Street. She later moved to Elizabeth, N.J., and worked at Eastern Aircraft. There she met and married Frank Andersen in 1943, an airplane mechanic who had returned from a tour of duty in the Flying Tigers in Burma. They moved to southern New Jersey in 1949 and lived there until moving to St. Cloud, Fla., in 1984.
After being a stay-at-home mom for some 16 years, she returned to work as a medical records clerk at Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, N.J. in 1960. She steadily rose in the ranks of the hospital administration to the role of Director of the Admissions Department. From that position, she was recruited to become the office/practice manager for a prominent local physician.
She was active in St. John's Lutheran Church (later St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, formed in 1966 through the merger of two predecessor congregations, St. John's and Trinity Lutheran).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; and her brothers and sisters, Grace, Maxine, Don, Lynwood, Dean, Florence (Flossie), Justin, Mabel, Doris, Leola, Mildred (Tillie), Frances, and Martha. She is survived by her son Alan and his wife Linda; her five grandchildren, Jenny and John (s) Schneider, Joseph Andrew Andersen, Thomas Donald and Romi (s) Andersen, Amanda Marie and Ram (s) Gurung, and Margaret Ilene Andersen; and her three great-grandchildren, Abigail and Elizabeth Schneider, and Nikita Gurung.
