Grace Ellen Buford, 93, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2003. A native of Amherst County, she was an area resident for the past 87 years. She was formerly employed by Miller & Rhoads with many years of service and was a homemaker. She was a member of Edgewood Christian Church and predeceased by her husband, Walter Russell Burford, three brothers, two sisters, one son-in-law and one grandson. She is survived by her daughter, Marian B. Gibson of Roanoke; sisters, Corrine Coffey and Eleanor Davis of Amherst; also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Helen Burford, Blacksburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 11 a.m. from Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Hugh Bumgarner officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, September 22, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. Memorials may be made to Carilion Hospice. The family requests that food not be brought to the home. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.
