Italian Actor, Theater and Opera Director. He is considered one of Europe's most influential theatrical directors. He graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Rome in 1953 and worked in many productions of famous Italian directors such as Michelangelo Antonioni and Orazio Costa. He beginning his career as a director in 1963 and then has worked for renowned companies, such as Burghtheater in Vienna, (The Bacchae of Euripides, 1973), Teatro alla Scala in Milano, (Don Carlos of Verdi and Siegfried of Wagner, 1978), the Vienna State Opera (Il Viaggio a Reims of Rossini, 1988), The Rossini Festival in Pesaro, The Salzburg Festival (Don Giovanni of Mozart, 1999). Between 1989 and 1994, Ronconi managed the Teatro stabile of Torino. His operatic productions include "Carmen" (1970), "Nabucco" (1977), "Norma" (1978), with Italian Soprano Renata Scotto, "Machbet" (1980), "La Traviata" (1982), "Tosca" (1997), and still others, until 2011, his last work, "Intolleranza". In 1998 he was the recipient of the Europe Theatre Prize. He died of pneumonia in the hospital of Milano.
