Wm. Stokan, age 53 years, died at his home northwest of Melvin on Tuesday evening, April 13, at 11 o'clock.

The funeral will be held from the Melvin Baptist church Friday afternoon and interment in the cemetery nearby.

Mr., Stokan was a brother of Mrs. Joshua Bobbins, formerly of Yake, and had been sick for nearly a year.

William Stokan was born at Amadore in 1860. He married Mary Eliza Schell in 1880.

William and Mary Eliza Stokan homesteaded 80 acres of land in Maple Valley Township in 1886. This land was located on the town line between Speaker and Maple Valley Townships, one mile west and three miles north of Melvin.

In 1904, their son, Herbert, married Maggie Clark, who was the daughter of Daniel and Emma Shook Clark. Herbert and his wife purchased this property from his parents.

William and Mary Eliza built a home in Melvin and moved there in 1904.

Their daughter, Lenora, married Sidney Hall. The only living grandchildren of William Stokan are Mae Stokan Lake and Frank H. Stokan. They are the children of Herbert and Maggie Stokan. Both of them reside in Port Huron.
