He adored children. He use to take myself and all the local neighborhood children to the Glendale YMCA for swimming. This was followed by pizza and ice cream. He would tote all of us in his station wagon. Looking back, I don't know how he handled all that responsibility but, he never complained and he did not micro-manage us.
He was a barber and he spent four years in the Navy. He was not fond of the Beatles. He said he nearly went broke when they came on the American scene. No one wanted to cut their hair anymore. He then went to work for the City of Los Angeles.
He liked Frank Sinatra and "The Rat Pack" and had a CD in his car called "The Rat Pack Live." He resembled Dean Martin.
I use to call Mr. Moreno at least twice a year. He claimed to have liked the liquor, "Black Velvet."
In 2010 I invited him to the funeral of Mr. Leonard Everhart who was his neighbor. He burst into tears over the news. Then he said, "He does not attend funerals anymore." However, the daughter of Mr. Everhart, was sent a note from Richard Moreno regarding the passing of Leonard Everhart. The Moreno's and the Everhart's use to play cards together.
The neighbors had a memorial in his honor. The Peterson's and his next door neighbor was present.
He is survived by his sons, Don and Jerry Moreno.
His wife, Margaret (Peggy) Moreno, passed from cancer in 1981. She adored Bird of Paradise flowers and is buried at Glendale Forest Lawn.
