While in the Navy, he served both in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. In the Pacific, J.D. saw combat at Tarawa and again in the Battle for the Marshall Islands. Early in his marriage, J.D. worked for the V.A. hospital in Fort Worth. He then began a career in the roofing industry. After many years of hard work, he was able to start his own roofing company. This led to the founding of Brazos Roofing in March of 1974 which continues to operate today. Brazos Roofing has done work from the Marshall Islands, to Guam, to Brazil and all over the United States. J.D. spent many joyous years working at Brazos Roofing along side his son, Adren. J.D. continued to work every day until his recent health decline.
