Son of John Conger Abbott and Charlotte A. Esquirol, husband of Adeline M. Vail, the daughter of Josiah R. Vail and Susan Maria Barlow, whom he married on November 25, 1880, in Manhattan, New York, and father of Maude Bell Abbott (married Walter Emison).

Husband of Jessie A. Van Pelt, the daughter of George V. Van Pelt and Martha Pardoe, whom he married on January 24, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York, and father of Edith Mae (married George Moritz), and Florence Adelaide Abbott (married Charles Draper Hayden, married Mitchell Tolson).

Obituary - John H. Abbott, 79 years old, of 417 Throop Avenue, for many years a letter carrier connected with the Postoffice in Manhattan, died on Wednesday. Mr. Abbott was born in New York City and was a member of the New York Letter Carriers Association. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jessie A. Abbott. The funeral services, on Friday evening, will be conducted by the Rev. Charles H. Snow, and the interment, on Saturday, will be in Evergreens Cemetery.
