JACKSONVILLE - Services for Ray Beall, long-time business man and civic leader of Jacksonville are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at 10 a.m. at The First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with Rev. Doug Wintermutt, Rev. Fred Lang, and Rev. Barbara Hugghins officiating. Burial will follow in Still Waters Memorial Park, Jacksonville, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

In the early morning hours of February 8, Ray Wilton Beall was received into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There he is with his devoted wife, Bunny, and his beloved son, Greg.

Ray Beall was born on November 22, 1927, to Robbie and Willie "Bill" Beall in Nacogdoches where he was raised and attended school.

After graduating from Nacogdoches High School, Ray attended college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he received a Business Degree. While attending college he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Where he was captain of sports teams.

After graduation, Mr. Beall began his career in retail with 3 Beall Brothers 3, Inc, his father Robbie Beall being one of the founding three Beall brothers. Ray worked his way up through management positions culminating in his appointment as Vice President of Marketing and headed up lingerie and shoes. He served in this capacity until his retirement in 1987.

He served in the National Guard.

Mr. Beall was very active in a civic role serving on the Board of Trustees for JISD, The Board of Jacksonville Savings and Loan and The Board of the United Fund, The Vineyard Church Leaders. Perhaps what he felt was his most significant contribution was his service on the Board of the Jacksonville Christian School, a school started in a portable building in Ray and Bunny's backyard.

Ray was a member of First United Methodist Church and was very involved and committed to his Sunday school class "The Seekers." He was a fifth-grade Sunday school teacher and was devoted to Christian education.

In retirement Mr. Beall was a very active person.

He had a true love for his country and the principles on which it was founded. Ray had a deep concern for the direction in which he felt the country was turning. Anyone who has been on his e-mail list can attest to his awareness and involvement in the political process of our country. You could not doubt his sincerity of his beliefs and his love for his country and his fellow man.

Ray was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always available to his children and grandchildren for advice and encouragement.

Always a very practical and principled man, Mr. Beall was never one to excess. He tried to find the true value in things and was never very interested in extravagance or luxury. He was much more spiritually oriented, his love of Christ being an overriding principle. He became a Christian at the age of 37 through a Navigators Bible Study and that changed his life forever. Those that knew him knew he truly "walked the walk.' Ray was a very benevolent giver to Christian causes and organizations and supported many conservative political groups. His overriding love for Christ was the driving force in his involvement and relationships with others. He did not just see the glass as half full, he saw it as full and overflowing.

To say he was an avid sports fan might be an understatement. Ray always enjoyed watching Cowboys games with his sons, son-in-law and grandchildren. He was interested and appreciated all sports, but was extremely fond of tennis, a sport he was very talent in. Ray is a member of the Jacksonville Tennis Hall of Fame and at several points in his playing career, was ranked in the top three in his age group in the state of Texas. He and Bunny enjoyed loading up their R.V. and traveling the country participating in national and state tennis tournaments. He was very active in tennis, until a knee injury and subsequent knee replacement surgery in his 80s forced his retirement from a sport he dearly loved.

Another passion of his was fishing. He would tell stories of his younger days hitting Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn in search of largemouth bass. He even considered a career as a professional bass fisherman until Bunny reminded him, he had five children to raise. There was nothing he enjoyed more than to slip the boat into Lake Jacksonville and go fishing with family and friends.

There is no way of knowing how many lives Ray and Bunny touched and affected through their love and dedication to Jesus Christ, but there had to be profound and many.

His family and friends will greatly miss him, but we are reassured he is with Bunny and Greg and we are truly blessed for having him in our lives.
