Howard J. Abel, of 241 Dean Street, passed away in the Memorial Hospital of Chester County yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock following an illness of five weeks, three weeks of which he had spent in the hospital. He would have been 70 years of age today.
Mr. Abel was a son of the late George W. and Elizabeth Abel, and had been in the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad as a station agent and telegrapher for many years, retiring four years ago. For twenty-five years he had been agent at Lenni on the Octorara Branch.
He was a member of the Order of Independent Americans and the Patriotic Sons of Americ.
He is survived by his wife, the former Hannah Mary Lewis (nee Jefferis), and two children by a former wife, Clyde, of Upland, Delaware county, and Blanche, wife of Edward Quigley, of Elam. A daughter, Bessie, is deceased. There are four grandchildren.
Three step-daughters also survive: Lydia, wife of Edwin Crosley, West Chester; Margaret, wife of Clarence Lear, West Chester, and Mrs. Isabel Matthews, of Kennett Square.
Two brothers, Henry, of Lima, and Clarence, of Morton, also survive.
ABEL- In Chester County Hospital, on Oct. 28, Howard J., husband of Hanna M. Abel, in he 70th year of his age.
Relatives and friends of the family, O. of I.A., of Concordville, and P.O.S. of A., of Upland, are invited to attend the funeral without further notice from the Hicks Funeral Home, 229 S. High St., West Chester, on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. Interment in Cumberland Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening.
