Billie E. Spencer, age 87, joined her true love, best friend, and husband of 68 years, George, on January 23, 2015.

Preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen (Killian) Eisele; sister Betty Ernestine (Eisele) Miller; and two infant sons.

She is survived by daughters Jackie and Lynne; son Greg and daughter-in-law Sandy; grandsons Eric and Bryan; and several nieces.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 15, 1927, Billie graduated from Bexley High School in 1945. She married her high school sweetheart, George, on June 23, 1946. Together they began their life in professional baseball that spanned 21 years.

As a team, Billie and George raised their family while George’s career took them across the country, but always returned to their hometown, Columbus. Billie’s love of baseball began with her father taking her to Red Bird Stadium in Columbus at the age of 5 where she became a charter member of the “Hole-in-the-Wall Gang”. She was an expert at arguing baseball strategy, or any sport for that matter, with George and did so regularly. Billie’s love of sports was evident in her memory of names, places, dates and statistics… she knew them all!

Billie loved American history and thoroughly enjoyed visiting historic sites that brought history alive for her. She thrived on discussing stories about local history with friends, especially her dear friend, Gloria Woods Gerhold. Books were very important in her life as she was a lifelong, voracious reader. Sunday dinners were always special with Billie in the kitchen. She loved to cook for her family and share recipes with her daughters and daughter-in-law. Family was all important to Billie and she was truly the keeper of their castle. She was extremely proud of her children and grandsons, Eric and Bryan.
In her later years, Billie, along with George, enjoyed visiting with their wonderful neighbors and felt fortunate to live in such a caring community. She will be missed by her family and her many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Billie’s memory to the Nationwide Children's Hospital, 700 Children’s Dr., Columbus, Ohio, 43205 or the Bexley Education Foundation, 348 S. Cassingham Rd., Bexley, Ohio. A service to celebrate Billie’s life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens’ Chapel, 5600 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio.
