His proudest role was as a husband and father. His wife, Phyllis Marie Hillard Griffith died in 1994. Two daughters, Phyllis Marie Angel Griffith and Anita Ann Griffith, were victims of a homicide and died together in 1991. Davis was survived by Danny Lee, Davis C. Jr., and Jonathan Davis Griffith.
