Vernon E. Bailey, 78, Towner, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, on his farm.

Vernon was born August 22, 1924, on the family farm in McHenry County, rural Towner, the son of Roy "Clyde" and Agnes (Hellerud) Bailey. He was reared and educated in McHenry County and graduated from Granville High School in 1942.

On October 16, 1945, he married Rosemary Meyer at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Granville. They made their home on the family farmstead in McHenry County where they farmed and ranched their entire lives.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Granville, ND. He was also a member of the Granville School Board, the Rancher's Scale Association and was the Riga Township Assessor. He worked for the North McHenry Soil Conservation District and was awarded the North McHenry Achievement Soil Conservation Award in 1996. He never missed any of his children's or grandchildren's sporting events. Vernon loved cattle and horses. He loved ice fishing and his many feathered friends.

Survivors: Wife, Rosemary Bailey, Towner; sons, Robert, Towner, and his children, Shannon (Jay) Dillman, Rachel, and Kate, all Fargo, Ryan, Missoula, Montana, Claudette, Brooke and Brock, Minot; Bobbi Jo (Jeremiah) Kuhnhenn and Blair, Bantry; Terry (Kathy) Bailey, Towner, and their children, Sam, Fargo, ND, Scott and Stacy, Minot, Taylor, Towner; Jon (Betty) Bailey and their children, Ann, Kerry, Jared, Sierra all Maple Grove, Minnesota.Randy (Joan) Bailey and their children, Shawn and Brandon all of Minot;Daughter, Sheila (Keith) Hanson, and their children, Levi, Shea, and Jordan, Moorhead, MN; mother, Agnes Bailey, Towner; brothers, Joe (Myrtice) Bailey, and Jerry (Linda) Bailey, all of Towner; sisters, Annabelle (Clifford) McBeth, Towner, and Jenell (Kenneth) Rollman, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy "Clyde" Bailey; brother, Jon Bailey; sister, Shirley Moen, and brother-in-law, Lloyd Moen.

Funeral: Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Granville, ND

Prayer Service: Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Granville, ND.

Visitation: noon until 4:30 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot then from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Granville.

Burial: Granville Cemetery, Granville, ND.
