Sallie Ruth Speake was the youngest child of Joseph Crittendon "Joe" Speake and Alazama Elizabeth "Ala" (Weathers) Speake.

Before she married Rev. Walter Pervia Rowland on 27-Sep-1923 in Gainesville, Cooke County, TX, she had been training in Dallas to become a nurse. Sallie Ruth married the widower of her first cousin, Marion Jane "Juanita" (Weather) Rowland.

Sallie Ruth sold many Avon products and won many Avon awards.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Sallie Ruth Rowland were conducted Monday, January 1, from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Howard, Enon Baptist Association Missionary, Ardmore, officiating. Assisting were Rev. Robert Griffin, pastor of Eastside Baptist Church, and Rev. Gerald Peters pastor of the First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rowland died December 28 at her home following an illness of several months. She was born April 22, 1898, in Cooper, Texas and married to Rev. W. P. Rowland on September 27, 1923. During the intervening 37 years, Rev. Rowland has served as pastor of most of the Baptist churches in the county, and Mrs. Rowland was widely known and loved by her many friends.

She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and had been a Baptist for over 40 years. Mrs. Rowland had been a very successful representative of the Avon Company for over 20 years.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. W. P. Rowland of Marietta; three sons, Pervia Rowland, of North Carolina; Estol Rowland, who is stationed with the U. S. Air Force in Thailand; Roy Rowland, stationed with the U. S. Air Force in England; one daughter, Mrs. Nadine Presley, of Lubbock; two step-sons, King Rowland, of Amarillo, and Rev. Thaddeus Rowland of Norman, Arkansas; three step-daughters, Mrs. Ivy Bragg of Gainesville, Mrs. Martha Weathers of Marietta, and Mrs. Julia Lester of Livermore, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Lacy of Winters, Texas; 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Interment in the Lakeview Cemetery was under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home. Serving as casket bearers were: J. O. Bond, Bill Hill, George Lowe, C. M. McGee, George Potter, and Price Townsend.
