Funeral services for Mrs. M. M. Rowland were held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Clayton, pastor, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Karl Moore, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ardmore. Mrs. Rowland died on Wednesday, December 26, at her home here following an illness of two years. She was born February 25, 1862, in Fayette County, Alabama, and was married to Thadeus Murphy Rowland on December 23, 1880, at Fayette.

They were the parents of nine, eight of whom survive. Rev. Rowland preceded her in death in 1928. Mother Rowland, as she was affectionately called by her many friends, had lived in Love County for the past 35 years coming here from Granbury, Texas. She had been a member of the Baptist church for 79 years and attended regularly so long as her health permitted. She will be greatly missed by her family, her neighbors, and her many friends.

Survivors include seven sons, J. S. (John Seba) Rowland of Dill City, M. L. (Murphy Leonedus) Rowland of Big Spring, Texas, Rev. W. P. (Walter Pervia) Rowland of Marietta, H. C. (Hiram Calvin) Rowland of Nocona, Texas, Jess (Jesse Carroll) Rowland of Plainview, Texas, Rev. F. C. (Floyd Clinton) Rowland of Quapaw, and Arvin (Ross Arvin) Rowland of Ardmore; one daughter, Mrs. Lovella (Lovella Bea Rowland Couser) Wolaver of Ardmore; 35 grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery was under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home with the following assisting as pallbearers: Wm. C. Cochran, W. L. Flanagan, Roy Porter, Jodie Porter, Eldridge Colston and Oscar Alagood.


Amanda Margeret "Mandy" Langston Rowland was the last surviving (of 12 children) of John B. "Johnny" Langston, Jr. and Phebe Jane (McClung) Langston. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hattie Myrtle (Rowland) Umphress.
