Carol Lois Bittner, 54, of LaVale, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born December 26, 1947 in Frostburg, MD, she is the daughter of Helen Marie (Myers) Hausrath of Midland and the late Charles Leslie Hausrath. Mrs. Bittner was employed by the Mineral County Board of Education as the principal of the Wiley Ford Primary School. Mrs. Bittner received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Frostburg State University and her Masters of Education, Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology and in Business Administration. She was a member and past president of Phi Delta Kappa and a member of the Ridgeley Lions Club, the WAESPNP, the NAESP, the RESA State Organization, and the West Virginia Association for the Young Child. Mrs. Bittner was also a graduate of the W. VA. Principal’s Academy.
She is survived by her husband Donald Melvin Bittner; one son; two daughters; one sister, Elizabeth Burke and her husband Albert of Midland; and a brother, Charles Hausrath and his wife Juanita of Fort Ashby, W. VA. Her mother-in-law, Madlyn C. Bittner of Corriganville, a brother-in-law, Kenneth R. and wife Patricia of Centerville, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews, also survive.
The family will receive friends at the Hafer Funeral Service Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Hwy, LaVale, on Thursday from 1-3 and 7-9 PM., and on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the 1st Assembly of God Church in Lonaconing with services to follow at 11:00 AM with the Pastor Gregory Georg officiating. Following the services the family invites friends to join them for a luncheon and time of fellowship. Per Mrs. Bittner's wishes, her body will be cremated and private inurnment services will be held at a later date.
