Arma Della Haney (Grandma Della) was born on December 6, 1876 in a house in what is now known as the Holly Springs Community between Appleby an Garrison in Nacogdoches County, Texas. She died March 17, 1953 in Nacogdoches, Nacogdoches County, Texas at the age of 76 years 3 months and 11 days. Arma Della married William Griffin Pits on May 28, 1893 in Nacogdoches. She lived most of her married life in a home off the old Spanish Bluff Road. "Della" was a snuff dipper. She loved to sit on the front porch in the evening and greet passers bys. She would spit the tobacco juice between her teeth , nod her head to the passers-bys and greet them with "Deevnin"
(good evening).
