German Nobility. Born the third son of Magnus II and Sophie of Pomerania. After his fathers death he reigned together with his uncle Balthasar and his brothers Heinrich V and Erich II. After 1520 he reigned the duchy of Güstrow alone. In 1524 he married Anna of Brandenburg, who bore him ten children.
