Dixon Keenan was born in Alnwick, Northumberland, England on July 6 1929. He was the 2nd to youngest of seven children, born to Mary Edith Keenan (Egdell), and Hugh Joseph Keenan.
Dixon moved to New Zealand on 25 January 1955, at the age of 25.
He married, and had 4 children. He spent most of his adult life working as a prison guard, at Rimutaka Prison, in Upper Hutt. He was presented with a medial, from the Governor General of New Zealand for outstanding services while working as a Guard at the Prison. Dixon had a stroke early in 2004, and died later that year.
