Mary Hood (July 30, 1912 - November 21, 2009)

Mary A. Hood, 97, of Dora, MO, passed away on November 21, 2009 at the West Vue Nursing Center, West Plains, MO. She was born on July 30, 1912 in Johnson City, TX the daughter of James and Florence (Bates) Harrington. She married James M. Hood on September 26, 1936 in Crown Point, IN. They lived in the Northern Indiana area until 1955.
The family moved to Mountain Home, AR in 1955 and to Dora, MO in 1976. Mary and James raised three sons. Mary had many occupations including three small businesses.
She remained gainfully employed until age 76. She last worked for the Dora, MO R3 schools. While there she was a cafeteria cook for 4 years and a teacher’s aid for 5 years. She received the most satisfaction and joy working with the young people, faculty and friends made while there. She retired in September 1988.
In her spare time and upon retiring she enjoyed emailing, crafts, gardening, and gatherings with family and friends. Mary is survived by one son of Dora, MO; six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Hood; her parents J.W. and Florence (Bates) Harrington; one sister Lydia Merle Rogers; and two sons Bill and Noah Hood. Mary requested cremation. It was her wish for there to be no funeral or memorial service. In respect of those wishes, burial will be private. Memorials can be made to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Cremation services are under the care and direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
