She was the daughter of Mary Delilah (FREDERICK) and George Warren APPLE.

Thelma was the wife of Wesley R. LONG, Sr..

Their children were Wesley R. LONG, Jr., Elmer Elwood LONG and Darlene Faith (LONG)WEAVER.

The passing of Thelma Long was a sudden severe shock to everyone. Jake Weaver, son-in-law, found her in her home Sunday February 27 when her family was unable to reach her by telephone. She evidently passed away while she was preparing her meal. Thelma, a beloved mother, grandmother,
friendly neighbor had spent her entire life in this area. She was born to George and Mary (Frederick) Apple and spent her early life in their home on the corner of Range Line and Oil Center Roads known as Pedro Corners. She attended elementary school near by, but attended Hoytville high school coming by horse and buggy, stopping along the way to get her friend, Chloe Dell Foltzin Brown, who lived on Needles Road. Prior to 1921 the Arie Long family came from Illinois and settled on the farm, the present Ohio experiment farm. Among the Longs was a son, Wesley, and it was inevitable that neighbors would become friends and it wasn't long before Wesley and Thelma began dating friendship led to romance and romance marriage which took place in 1921. The newlyweds settled their home in this area and finally in the home on Mulberry Street, Hoytville where there they continued to live until their deaths. Three children were born to this couple; Wesley, Jr. who is deceased; Elmer Elwood, Scotch Ridge and Darlene Weaver, Deshler. Thelma was a devoted mother. Many of us remember when Darlene was a young girl and suffered a cut case of rheumatic fever. Recuperation covered a long period of time entirely recovered completely. It was said that this came about because of the loving and devoted care of her mother. The recuperation was slow and demanded her bed care. When the first signs of improvement were noticed Thelma sent word to S. S. members that Darlene was well enough to sit up and all who wish could come and see Darlene from the street. Time took care of things and Darlene married Jake Weaver and is the mother of five children and grandmother of two great-granddaughters. Thelma seemed especially happy the last few years. She had suffered lots of her husband, Wes, & Wes Jr. within a period of six months and she was in the deepest sorrow as only a wife and mother knows. She related that she could hardly endure things so she went to prayer and told the Lord she couldn't overcome this alone. The change in feeling was felt in she now is in the hands of the father who gave her a happier feeling. Thelma was so proud of her three children, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted fan and of all athletic events especially those in which are gradually were involved. She was so proud of their accomplishments and shared their special events with us. Thelma had been a faithful member of the local church for over 60 years as well as the friendship class. She was a member of the ladies literary club. Thelma loved life, her family, her
friends, church, neighbors and the village of quite well. She will certainly be missed that although the all those who knew her, what is our losses heavens gain. - Hoytville Methodist Church
