Edward Cole Everett was born in Belleville, St. Clair county, Illinois Nov. 27, 1823. He moved with his parents to Chicago in 1833 when that city was only an Indian trading post and nothing but low lying swamp grounds there were nearly impassable.

He lived there until manhood on a farm which his father owned where the present busy thoroughfares of that great are now.

He then moved to Plainfield, Will county, Illinois where he was married to Phebe Ann Hill on Dec 22, 1854.

Five children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. The remaining children are Mrs. Lillian Dupree and Frank A Everett of this city and Albert Everett of Crescent City, Illinois and the wife and mother left to mourn a loving husband and father.

He united with the M. E. church at Gardner, Ill., in 1873. Afterwards moving to Watseka, Ill., and uniting with the church there by letter, and was still a member there when he died.

He moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas in 1886.

He was a man who always had a cheerful word for all, and a Christian in his dealings with everyone. He has a host of friends and several nieces and nephews who will sadly miss him from his accustomed place among them.

He died December 19, 1899, after a brief illness of only a few days, aged 76 years and 22 days.

He was laid to rest in Iowa Union Cemetery, there to await the judgment call. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H.P. Mann of Phillipsburg.
