KANSAS: Grace Virginia Smith, age 96,passed away at 3:45 pm, Monday January 5, 2015 at Quaker Hill Nursing Center, Lowell, KS following an illness.

Grace was born November 20, 1918 in Cassville, MO. Her parents were Edward and Dora Jane (Beck) Henbest.

She first moved to Galena in 1946 from Joplin, MO and became employed at Dolly Rice’s Café. From 1963 – 1976, she lived in Wichita, KS where she worked in the bakery at St. Frances Hospital. In 1977, when she returned to Galena, she worked for awhile in the kitchen at Galena Manor.

She attended First Baptist Church, Galena, KS. Her favorite interests were sewing, doing yard work, and caring for her grandkids.

Grace was married to Oscar N Smith on August 2, 1941 in Cassville, MO. He passed away June 13, 1979. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rozetta Tucker, and Nina Mae Martin, and three brothers, James Albert Henbest, Edward Henbest Jr, and Lavern Lowell Henbest.

Surviving is one son, Gordon H Smith, Galena, KS; two brothers, Dale E Henbest (Lucille), Farmerville, TX and Donald L. Henbest, (Glenda) Westminster, TX; three grandchildren, Cristy Cammarn, Shelley Decker, and Steven Ray Smith; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 am, Saturday, January 10, 2105 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastor Jeff D Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Friday, January 9, 2015 at the funeral home.
